Biography

After a long career as a concept illustrator in the advertising and motion-picture industry, James Crandall has shifted his focus to traditional easel painting. He finds subject matter in everyday life, and is always looking for an intriguing play of light, or the unstaged gestures of people at work and at play. An ongoing series of paintings depicts life in his maternal grandfather’s hometown of Lucca in northern Tuscany, where he regularly visits. Recent work also includes scenes from the rural backroads of California’s Gold Country, where he and his wife Nancy make their home.

He is a Master Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America and a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society.

Biography

Mark Shasha (b. 1961) is an award-winning American artist, author and educator.

His work has appeared in museums, galleries and publications for 40 years. His paintings are found in public and private collections around the world. And millions have read his children’s books which he has written and illustrated.

After college at Rhode Island School of Design in 1983 Shasha was a frequent illustrator for the Boston Phoenix, The Globe and many other publications. His first children’s book, Night of the Moonjellies (Simon & Schuster, 1992) won a Marion Vannett Ridgway Honor Award and was welcomed by Smithsonian Magazine as “a classic.” It continues to appear on bestseller lists.

His work led to invitations to hundreds of schools and libraries where he delighted hundreds of thousands of children with his stories, songs and drawings. In recognition of his “outstanding contribution to the education of young people” Mark was the recipient of the Shining Star Award by The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut.

Shasha’s focus is light and texture in the natural world which he approaches in a traditional style with techniques of 19th and 20th century masters. In his popular video, “Shimmering Light” (Lilidahl Productions, 2021) he elaborates on some of his personal methods to achieve these effects.

Hi, I’m Sandra.

After spending over a decade in the contour industry, when COVID-19 hit I returned to my first love: art.

I’m a proudly non-traditional digital collage artist, who likes to think outside the box. And is shaped by a mix of lived experiences - Catholic, Jamaican and Brummie. I love wearing animal print and never feel an outfit is complete without my signature bright pink lipstick.

My artwork is filled with my own energy and personal story. I incorporate my own landmark and botanical photography - from homegrown Brummie flowers and parma violets, a nod to my family, the Palmers, to hummingbirds, celebrating my Jamaican heritage.

I’m inspired by the candid photography of Terry O’Neill and the striking botanical collages of 17th-century artist and collage pioneer Mary Delany.

At its heart, my art is about love, optimism and celebrating life on our beautiful planet. Because, as far as we know, there’s nowhere else quite like Earth.

Biography

Sarah Rose was born in Oxnard California in 1967. She amazed her mother by drawing as early as a year and a half old. When she was 9 her family moved to an extremely rural part of central Nevada which was to have a major impact on her future art endeavors. Horses became part of her life and featured prominently in her early drawings and paintings. When she was a teenager she took a mail order course in taxidermy and shortly after that began sculpting. After a short career in taxidermy where she learned anatomy Sarah began pursuing sculpture seriously and became a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists in New York. She was a professional sculptor for over 30 years focusing first on wildlife and then moved exclusively to horses. She always had a secret desire to paint though, and has been painting in pastel since 2012.

Sarah has lived in Colorado since 1991 and in the Durango, Colorado area since 2001. She was an avid horseback rider and explored thousands of miles of trails in both Colorado and Utah, sometimes packing in camping gear and spending up to a week in the backcountry. In painting the landscape and horses she draws on the long hours spent in the saddle appreciating the natural world and the nature of horses. Although her horse is now enjoying a well earned retirement Sarah still gets out on drives to find inspiration and bring back lots of photos to work from in her studio. One of her favorite drives is the fall color loop on the San Juan Skyway every autumn.

Poppy Balser is a Canadian painter who has always lived within walking distance of the ocean, mostly on the shores of the Bay of Fundy. She developed an early love for the ocean and seashore which has deepened as she studies the sea and its environs through her paintings. She understands that the wild portions of Nova Scotia’s environment are a precious resource and seeks to highlight their beauty in her paintings. She paints outside often to keep her observations fresh and accurate. Her goal is to transfer the open air feeling of being outside in nature into her studio work.

Poppy began the serious pursuit of painting in watercolours in 2003. She has since followed a path of self directed study, choosing workshops by master painters from across the country. Over the last few years she has expanded her artistic practice to include oil painting. She has become a well known and accomplished painter, known for both her watercolour and oil paintings. She holds signature or elected membership in several art societies, including the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), the Oil Painters of America and the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).

Poppy has exhibited in national annual exhibitions with the CSPWC, the ASMA, the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Watercolor Society. She has won multiple awards in the CSPWC and the OPA exhibitions, as well as multiple awards in the PleinAir Salon. She is represented by galleries including Teichert Gallery in Halifax, the Flight of Fancy in Bear River, Harvest Gallery in Wolfville as well as Handworks Gallery in Saint John, New Brunswick. Articles about her work have been published in art magazines including PleinAir Magazine and Watercolor Artist and her work has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.

Poppy participates in plein air festivals and competitions in Canada and the United States, lately winning awards in both the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air (in Apalachicola,FL) and in the Wet Paint competition held by the OPA during their annual convention and exhibition in Charleston, SC.

She tells the behind the scenes stories of her paintings in her newsletter and on her blog. She seeks with her posts and videos to give her readers a real sense of being on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, or wherever her painting journey has taken her.

As I paint each artwork I listen for what wants to emerge. I aim to create in alcohol ink a moment to pause, reflect, and experience the emotional resonance of light, color, and perception as its own language.

Capturing the energy and the beauty of fleeting moments reflects my fascination with exploring how color, texture, and movement depict the pathways we choose and the places we arrive. My process is intuitive and experimental, allowing the materials to guide me as much as I guide them, through layers of translucent color and bold, gestural marks.

When working with alcohol ink on plexiglass, I invite light to become an active participant in each piece. I am drawn to the unpredictable flow and luminous transparency it offers. As you move around the artwork, the colors reflect onto the back shadowbox surface, shifting, evolving, and revealing new colors and depths.

Recently, I ventured into using a new substrate for my alcohol ink - canvas. I build surfaces through layered papers and primed canvas, to reveal texture beneath color. Each piece is a conversation between control and spontaneity-where vibrant hues blend, collide, and settle into compositions that evoke both energy and calm.

Ultimately, my art is about celebrating the freedom to color outside the lines, embracing imperfection, and finding harmony. I hope my work brings a sense of wonder, vitality, and connection to those who experience it. I invite viewers to find their own stories within the abstract artworks I create.

The senses become intertwined in the mind of the artist. Sounds appear as colors, numbers sing songs and frequencies dance in her head. Synesthesia is a crossing of the senses. The mixed media work represent a beautiful blending of sounds, nature and science.

Sandra Duran Wilson comes from a family of artists and scientists. She grew up in a world where all things were possible in her imagination. It was a world where she could look through the microscope in her fathers office and paint what she saw. Her early years were spent on the border of Mexico where the people, animals, landscape, music, culture and the stories of the curanderas shaped her reality. Years later she would return frequently to Mexico and South America to absorb the culture, traditions and art. Her spirituality combined with her scientific studies directed her work from realism to abstraction.

Her work is influenced by scientific concepts in physics, chemistry and biology. The pure fun of exploring what paint can do and her natural curiosity keeps the work fresh and lively. She is continually exploring new surfaces, materials and techniques. Her work is represented in galleries in the US and Australia and is found in corporate, civic and educational institutions and private collections globally.

She experiments, paints, writes and teaches at her studio in Santa Fe, NM. She also teaches around the US, Europe and Australia. She is the author of six art technique books, several DVDs, a YouTube channel and her work has been featured in numerous books and magazines.

Biography

Born in 1976 in Raciborz, Poland. At first his great interest was drawing. From the early childhood he liked to copy various characters of comics and fairy tales. His childish sketches were so good that many people from his nearest neighborhood were very astonished. At the first school years he took part in many artistic high-level competitions. His artistic works were often rewarded and got good opinions of critics.

His great artistic talent, especially a gift for drawing, was observed by Marek Czechowicz, plastic art teacher in primary school in Baborów. Czechowicz’s creative activity was the first serious artistic inspiration. Czechowicz was also the first person who helped talented young man to deepen his knowledge of practical skills in oil painting. He taught Damian Lechoszest in his own private painter’s studio.

Damian graduated University of Technology in Opole in 2002. During the studies he attended the practical painting classes in Liceum Plastyczne in Opole. For many years he improved not only his practical skills but also theoretical knowledge. His sharp, analytic and inquiring mind tried to understand the impact of the painting on the onlookers. He also tried to know how the human eye was reacting and recording to visual stimuli and how the human mind created comprehensive image. That is why he studied biology, psychology and physiology of vision consulting his private library of nearly 4000 books.

Damian mainly paints portraits and portrayed models are very strikingly similar with the use unusual insight and analytic attitude. Works are sold all over the world including Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Ireland, France and USA. One of his paintings Portrait of John Paul II hangs in famous Pauline Monastery of Jasna Góra in Poland.

The artist, his wife Ela and two children Jasiek and Lukasz live in Baborow, little town in the south of Poland.

Biography

I have been painting in different mediums for many years. Having to emigrate to Miami from Cuba at an early age, I had to put my art interests on hold. I graduated from Florida International University with a degree in business. Throughout my business career, my dreams and passion remained in the arts.

After thirty years in the business world, I am now a full time artist. I am mainly self-taught, except for a few classes and workshops throughout the years. I am inspired and influenced by my culture and tropical environment. I am as comfortable working in oils, as well as acrylics and watercolor. I am best known for my seascapes, but you will also find other tropical inspirations, as well as vibrant abstracts.

My involvement in the art community is varied. I was an exhibiting artist at Grovehouse Artists Gallery, a Miami Watercolor Society Signature member and a Florida Watercolor Society member. I have also participated in community art in public places programs, such as Coconut Grove Peacock Tour and the South Miami Manatee Festival. I volunteered as a Docent at the Lowe Art Museum from 2007 to 2020. My interests have now evolved to the home decor and design world with my artwork being licensed by various companies, such as DENY Designs.

I am as interested in creating art for a wall, as well as functional art pieces. My goal is to not limit art to a wall, but to allow people to surround themselves with my creations.

Biography

Kyle Stuckey is an American realist painter who began studying art during his high school years simply because he needed an art credit to graduate. He then fell in love with oil painting as he studied masters like Sargent and Waterhouse, took workshops from today’s masters, and became a member of the Putney Painters learning alongside some of the greatest artists today. Over the following decade, he continued to work with oil and develop and refine his impressionistic realism style. Today he enjoys painting an array of subject matter: people, places, and things.

Kyle has spent much time traveling around the world, painting as he goes. Originally from New Hampshire, Kyle has also spent time in Asia, Europe, Central America, and the U.S. west coast. Now he is living in Charleston, SC.

Biography

My passion for art began in my childhood, where I spent all my free time copying illustrations of my favorite cartoon characters from books and magazines. Growing up in Kolomyia, I was fortunate to have two art masters, Vasyl Andrushko and Myroslav Yasinskiy, who introduced me to academic drawing and painting. They taught me the fundamental principles of composition, color theory, and how light works. I painted some of my first still lifes and cast drawings with them.

After graduating from school, I decided to attend the Institute of Arts in Ivano-Frankivsk to become a fashion designer. However, after a short period of study, I transferred to the National University of Culture and Arts in Kyiv. Although academic drawing and painting was not my main focus of study, I continued to improve my skills.

In 2009, I moved to the United States and spent most of my time living in Chicago, where I often visited art exhibitions at the Art Institute. I was particularly impressed by the works of the Impressionists, particularly John Singer Sargent, who was famous for his “bravura” brushwork. Later, I became a member of the “Palette and Chisel” artists club, where I had the opportunity to practice drawing and painting from live models. There, I became familiar with the works of one of the greatest masters of the 21st century, Richard Schmid, who was also a member of this club in the past. His painting technique and teaching method made a huge impression on me.

In 2021, I moved back to Ukraine and currently live and work in my hometown of Kolomyia. The genres I work in include still life, figure, portrait, and landscape.

Biography

My work is about the balance of inner and outer worlds. What can be seen and unseen. The spiritual emotional soul that lives in all of us and the material world we all experience. What I paint: the landscape, clouds, skies, are a universal symbol that we can all see but so often place our own meaning on.

For me painting is an act of meditation, a time to be quiet and listen to that inner dialogue, be it from my mind or a higher source. The landscape and specifically the sky are the perfect metaphor to the impermanence of this life and how nothing stays the same but instead evolves and changes as we do.

Biography

An active artist and nature-lover in my youth, after a decades-long hiatus, I recently returned to painting. When I’m not practicing painting, I practice law. As often as possible, I try to capture beauty in paint and joyfully bring something lovely into the world. To ensure I provide my best work and continue to improve, I regularly supplement my art education by taking workshops from painters I admire. And to validate that I’m continuing to improve, I enter juried art exhibitions and other events as time allows. You can see the workshops I’ve attended, shows I’ve been a part of, and recognitions my paintings have received here.

My Paintings

I generally paint flowers, landscapes, and other natural subjects. I paint in oil on linen or cotton canvas, using archival, professional materials. If my paintings bring joy to your world, I want them to last more than a lifetime. I aim to incorporate loose brushwork, rich colors, and strong design.

At this time, I offer framed, original artworks for purchase online and occasionally through gallery shows and other events. You may find details regarding purchase by clicking on any painting listed in my portfolio, available at the “Works” tab above. These pieces are sold framed, shipped in secure shipping boxes, and are ready to hang in your space. The price of these pieces ranges from $400 to $2200, depending on the size and complexity of the piece.

In addition to my framed and fully finished pieces, from time-to-time I offer some of my small oil sketches at online auction through Daily Paintworks, available by clicking on the “Auction” tab above or at the DPW icon at the bottom of this page. I sell these pieces at week-long auctions starting at $35, unframed, or at a buy-it-now price of $100 available before the first bid is placed. Biography

As a contemporary impressionist painter, Brandi Donan paints subjects that capture the essence of life in an intimate way. Her goal is to evoke powerful emotion among her audience. Brandi’s loose style of painting depicts bold energy of movement with her expressive brush strokes.

Brandi has been involved in some form of art her entire life. As a child, she was always creating something with her hands. Her grandmother was a huge influence as she watched her paint while she was growing up. In 1999, she focused her interest in getting a nursing degree and then several years later she and her husband moved to Chattanooga, TN. In 2012, she decided to pursue a full-time art career. When she is not painting, she enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and chasing her son Ean around.

Brandi has studied under nationally known artists such as Alyssa Monks, Mia Bergeron, and Rose Frantzen. She is also a member of the American Women Artists and the American Impressionist Society and Women Artists of the West.

Having an aunt who is a professional artist, the influence of the arts and access to a working studio throughout my life has been quite familiar. I have always considered myself to be “creative” but that creativity manifested itself through interior design, space planning, and art collecting. My very first major life purchase was ART and I started that art collection at an early age of 22. It wasn’t until much later in life when I realized that my personal collection contained an equal quantity of my own work! So, it was with the encouragement of my husband and girls that I am painting, creating, and now sharing my work...and what a joy to be amongst other professional, talented artists and inquisitive, curious collectors...all whom hold an embracing passion for art!
