Biography

As a representational painter, I’m attracted to the variety of formal possibilities in a motif; characteristics like the shapes of shadows or the colors of forms. I respond with playfulness, then objectivity, then moments of raw emotion, which often look like rescuing the effort with a unified simplification, or messing it up to give myself more problems to solve.

My hopes going forward are to integrate an ever-developing love of art history, and a deeper reliance on my imagination. It’s wonderful to spend a portion of my time giving back, and I hope to continue inspiring through writing and teaching; and more importantly, through a life dedicated to artistry.

Born and raised in Houston, John Lasater is an acclaimed artist currently residing in the picturesque hills of Northwest Arkansas. Initially recognized for his impressionistic style and bold brushwork, Lasater has undergone transformation through extensive travels and deep historical and experimental self-studies. This evolution has led his recent works to have a more contemplative and simplified approach.

A prolific figure in the plein air scene for many years, Lasater is widely regarded as one of the premier outdoor painters in America, evidenced by his invitation to join the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America. His numerous accolades include close to 50 top awards at events such as Door County Plein Air, Sedona Plein Air, Maui Plein Air Invitational, Plein Air Southwest Salon, and the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art. While outdoor painting remains integral to his artistic process, Lasater continues to push the boundaries of his craft with unwavering dedication and passion.

Biography

What attracts a person to a scene? Its light? Its composition? Its character? Or is it something more, something hidden?

Painting, for me, goes beyond a process of representing visual perceptions on a canvas. It is a way of communicating my response to the perceptual moment, not simply of seen shapes and colors, but to what exists to make that scene stand above all others. My paintings strive to reveal what is unseen, to move the emotions of the viewer and suggest ideas, awaken emotions and discover truths both uplifting and noble.

To paint is to communicate my emotions to others. To have my art touch the core of my work’s viewers means I have conveyed an emotion suggesting the human condition, and in doing so have succeeded as an artist.

Biography

I was born to an artistic Massachusetts family. I started drawing and painting very early. My home was filled with beautiful paintings done by my great grandmother. She traveled to the White Mountains in New Hampshire in the 1890”s to paint”en plein air”. I was inspired by these paintings and encouraged by my family. I always knew I wanted to be an artist.

I recieved a National Scholastic Art Scholarship in high school to go to the art school of my choice.I dreamed of becoming an illustrator and choose Vesper George School of Art in Boston.

One of my teachers was Robert Douglas Hunter. He noticed my talent and encouraged me to move from commercial art to fine art. I transferred to the School of the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, Massachusetts and majored in painting.

In my early twenties I had an urge to travel and headed west. I was struck by the awesome beauty of the Rocky Mountains.I settled in the historic mining town of Ward, Colorado, surronded by National Forest and near the Indian Peaks Wilderness area .Hiking, backpacking, and living in a small town suited me . I am still here today.

After many years of working with pastels, I felt like holding a brush again.I decided to get serious about oils and signed up for workshops with the best teachers and painters I could find. I studied with Kim English, Skip Whitcomb, Kang Cho,Greg Kreutz, George Strickland, Carolyn Anderson and Kevin Weckbach.I can’t begin to describe how great it is to spend time with teachers so willing to share their knowledge and experience.

I enjoy painting just about anything - landscapes, interiors, buildings and figures, but my greatest love is plein air painting. The weather ,the light, and the land all become part of me.Heading out into nature,looking around and being inspired by a beautiful composition and translating that to my canvas right then and there is always exciting to me.

I still love to travel to New England, Florida and the mountains and deserts of the Southwest. You can often find me happily painting on the side of a road, in some grubby alleyway, or off on some trail past the “no trespassing” sign.

Biography

I’ve always known I wanted to be an artist, though for much of my life I didn’t realize it was something people still did for a living. Growing up in the north woods of Wisconsin, I was surrounded by forests, lakes, and wildlife. Nature was the backdrop to my childhood, and it’s been my greatest source of inspiration ever since.

After getting a degree in graphic design, I made a spontaneous move to Laguna Beach, California. There, I discovered a vibrant community of working artists and realized that painting wasn’t just nostalgia of a bygone era, it was very much alive and I wanted to be a part of it.

I picked up a paintbrush and began practicing and fell in love with Plein Air. For me, painting has always been about being present in the landscape: feeling the air, watching the light shift, and capturing the mood of the moment as it flows into the next.

Today, I am located in Colorado where I continue to seek out the quiet beauty of nature, letting each place I visit tell its own story through my work. Every brushstroke is a reflection of a time and place I experienced in the landscapes that have shaped me since childhood.

Gunnar currently lives in Northern Colorado.

Biography

Georgii Rachinsky is a self-taught painter currently based in Novi Sad, Serbia. Before turning to visual art, he pursued an academic career in philosophy and religious studies, earning a PhD while researching ideology, religion, and political thought. It was during the final years of his doctoral work that painting unexpectedly entered his life. What began as simple digital collages made to escape the monotony of academic writing gradually evolved into an obsession with light, shadow, and atmospheric figurative painting.

His work occupies the territory between magical realism, contemporary surrealism, and dark figurative art. It explores liminal psychological states - moments suspended between life and death, beauty and decay, desire and loss. Perfection, fundamentally unachievable in mortal life, appears on the canvas as a moment arrested in time. Yet it is always accompanied by ‘memento mori’ imagery, which underscores its connection to transcendence.

That is also the reason why he is more focused on painting than on composing music, to which - unlike visual art - he has been dedicated since childhood. Following Schopenhauer, he understands music as the most direct expression of the Blind Will: an endless movement of longing, desire, and absence. Painting, by contrast, suspends that movement. It allows the unattainable to appear as complete and becomes an act of anamnesis - in the Platonic and even Gnostic sense. In such a way, painting has become his philosophical answer to what music could not resolve.

Beyond that, he is interested in the philosophical consequences of the decline of postmodernism and the emergence of metamodern thought. His current research explores the possibility of restoring beauty as a fundamental component of artistic meaning rather than treating aesthetics as merely decorative or secondary to concept.

Alongside his artistic practice, he is an entrepreneur and the founder of an IT recruitment company. This parallel career allows him to remain financially independent and to approach painting without the pressure to adapt his work to market expectations.

Biography

Kitty Schroeder is an artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio, who is currently creating layered, map-based images using mixed mediums. These works convey a sense of energy and time, centering on the relationship of mapping with global connectivity. Childhood experiences moving repeatedly continue to inspire her layered methods of making artwork.

She earned a BA and MA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, focusing on ceramics, printmaking and drawing. In Arkansas she worked as an Artist in the Schools and as a founding member of ArtSpace Artist Cooperative. She worked eight years in the Junkin after filling two adjunct positions, art making was subjected to realism and support for her family. Her focus since retiring remains on skills and experimentation. In 2024, she completed a year-long residency at Manifest Gallery.

I have been passionate about drawing and painting since early childhood and I’ve never met a medium I didn’t like. My work ranges from oil painting “en plein air” to all genres of studio work, LIVE music and event paintings and all forms of sculpture. I am honored to be recognized with over 209 awards for painting in oils, acrylic, watercolors, gouache, drawing, colored pencil, mixed media, pen & ink, photography and sculpture - for portraits, still life, landscapes and abstraction.

Among these are international recognition as one the premier artists painting in major Plein air Competition Events. I enjoy the camaraderie, competition and creativity of Plein Air events as they inspire me to continually expand as an artist. I’ve had over 63 solo shows and a multitude of juried art shows. My work is in museum and private collections across the USA and in England, Ireland, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Estonia, China and Curacao.

I Live paint for galas, live music and events as they take place. A Live Art Fusionist, my acrylic works continue to wow audiences & garner great press. I was recently flown to LA by a famous actress to paint her daughter’s wedding LIVE. It was a great success.

As an avid sailor, classic, modern and one design yacht racing has fueled my inspiration of fascinating nautical and maritime artworks. My art was featured in the Mystic Seaport museum of America and the Sea exhibition “”Modern Masterpiece - 30 Years of the Museum Purchase Award”, and I have been selected for exhibit in the Mystic Seaport Gallery’s 31st, 32nd, 33rd, 34th, 36th and 37th annual “International Maritime art shows” (respectively), Quinlan Arts center museum show “Southern Waters” and my painting “Skimmer vs. IVRE” was included in a 22 month, 8 museum, national tour as part of the American Society of Marine Artists “Contemporary American Marine Art” show.

I’ve developed a teaching method that accelerates the learning curve in art; a former Professor at the Parsons New School University School of Design Strategies & associate of The School of Fashion Design, a film and television actor SAG-AFTRA; mentor & motivational speaker; I am a musician, a gourmet cook and an award winning published writer of short stories, screenplays, essays and poetry much of it about sailing and the sea. In 2025 (and 2015) nominated for Poet laureate of Nassau County.

Yael Maimon was born in Israel on January 22, 1980. Drawing and painting since forever, Maimon decided to be fully committed to her art in her early twenties. In 2003 she graduated from Bar Ilan University with a first degree B.A. in Psychology. Her art education includes studying with the oil painter Amnon David Ar in 2005-6 in Israel, attending Margaret Dyer‘s pastel workshop in France, Eugen Chisnicean‘s watercolor workshop in France and Daniel Keys‘ online course.

Maimon is best known for her Cats painting series. She volunteered at an animal rescue center and today at her home still taking care and saving abandoned kittens. “Cats are now my first circle of close friends. I love them and they give me daily inspiration. Cats are very intelligent creatures, they are simply fascinating animals” . For her, it’s both fun and a challenge trying to capture their facial expressions, gestures and body language on canvas or paper.

Maimon enjoys painting in a variety of media including oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media. In addition to her Cats series, Maimon works on a magical figurative series called Once Upon a Time and a still-life Pastry series. She likes “playing” with the colors and constantly experimenting. In her work process there’s always room for improvisation and spontaneity.

Although grounded in realism, Maimon’s paintings are often impressionist in nature. Her artwork was featured in collective art exhibitions in Israel, gained international recognition and has been bought by private collectors.

Biography

I am an Italian selftaught multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, tattooing, animation, jewelry, and writing. My artistic practice is primarily centered on creating hyper-realistic surrealist works that combine realistic portraiture with symbolism, abstraction, and emotional intensity. I mainly work with acrylics while traveling and oils when in a studio setting, adapting my techniques and materials to the environment around me. My earlier work was deeply influenced by metaphysical and esoteric studies, including sacred geometry, alchemy, duality, universal consciousness, and spiritual symbolism. I explored themes connected tohidden dimensions of reality and the relationship between the spiritual and material worlds. Through layered symbolism and carefully constructed compositions, I aimed to create works that invited reflection beyond the visible surface. Over the years, my artistic language evolved toward a more instinctive and emotionally driven approach. Influenced by Latin American culture, indigenous traditions, and the energy of painting in public spaces, I began focusing less on rigid symbolism and more on spontaneity, emotional flow, and the expressive power of color. I often create my own handmade canvases and custom pastel blends from primary colors, treating color itself as a symbolic and emotional language within the artwork. Alongside painting, I create hyper-realistic silicone sculptures, illustratedbooks, and tattoo designs that extend my visual identity across different mediums. My work seeks to merge technical precision with intuitive expression, creating immersive visual experiences that connect symbolism, emotion, and contemporary surrealism into a singular artistic vision.

Biography

Ashwini Bharathula (b.1984) is a representational fine artist specializing in oil painting, currently based in Chandler, AZ. “Growing up in India, I LOVED to draw in my spare time. My artistic journey began with sketching Disney characters and figures from Indian mythology.” Ashwini pursued a formal education in the field of Materials Science and Engineering. After completing her Bachelor’s degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, she moved to the US in 2005 to pursue her Master’s and PhD at The Ohio State University. A summer painting class during graduate school reignited her love for creating. After getting her PhD, she worked in the semiconductor industry for a few years. “Even while working in the corporate world, I had this constant itch to paint.” With a deep appreciation for both the analytical and the creative, Ashwini eventually left the corporate world to explore the intersection of science and art. She first launched a YouTube channel featuring educational science videos and later collaborated with TED-Ed to create animated short films. During this period, she also deepened her commitment to painting, ultimately making the leap to pursue fine art full-time. “The act of creating something realistic and beautiful from scratch brings me immense joy,” she says.

Her artistic education includes workshops at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and extensive study of foundational texts like Richard Schmid’s Alla Prima. She has studied with renowned artists such as Susan Lyon, Daniel Keys, Suchitra Bhosle, Louis Carr, Todd Casey, Ned Mueller, Adrien Gottlieb, Kathleen Speranza, and Gustavo Ramos. Today, Ashwini is also an instructor at the Scottsdale Artists’ School, sharing her passion and expertise with fellow artists.

My son and I are studio potters, not production potters. As studio potters we focus on unique, handcrafted pieces that are functional. Pottery that’s meant to be used, touched and looked at for their unique, distinctive qualities. No two pieces are the same, though in a series, the pieces will have similar aesthetics.

Teresa resides in Shelby, North Carolina. North Carolina is filled with artistic inspiration from the numerous wildflowers that line the landscape, to the lush tapestries of its ocean dunes.

She graduated from Paier School of Art in 1978.

During her career Teresa has been employed as an art director for
Safari Club International in Tucson, Arizona, as well as various print shops in Connecticut and Arizona. Although employed as a graphic artist most of her 30 year art career, her love of fine art craft has never left her.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The play of opposites is a key factor in all of my artwork. Complementary colors, the contrast between light and dark, bright and subdued, rigid lines against soft dabs, smooth alongside texture.

The impression of fabric can be found in many of my clay vessels.
Textures, patterns and colors can be “woven” into pottery using tools, stains and glazes.

Flowers, which have eluded me on canvas, come to life on pottery.
Delicate petals are drawn, sculpted, carved, hand glazed or formed utilizing colored porcelain clay. For me, it’s all about the flowers; usually the focal point on my pottery vessels.

Been painting since I was 10 - that would be almost 60 years ago! It’s quite possible I’ve pursued every craft imaginable. As of January 2017, wheel-throwing has been added to this list of creative endeavors.
In December 2022, a new ceramic journey began; coloring porcelain to create functional pottery. Coloring porcelain has reignited our passion for creating pottery. Sketching form and texture ideas, color combinations, making test tiles, combining colored porcelain clay techniques, and actually coloring the porcelain itself, are all part of the creative process.

Bowls, lidded jars and vases are items I am particularly interested in adorning with various colored porcelain clay techniques. Currently honing my wheel-throwing and hand-building skills, as well as envisioning new ways to embellish pottery with floral creations, whether graphically or whimsically.

OUR COLORED PORCELAIN CLAY JOURNEY
There are various Colored Porcelain Clay techniques my son, Dennis, and I are constantly experimenting with.

These are a few techniques we like to combine or use alone in our handcrafted pottery:

Neriage - a wheel throwing technique which involves 2 or more colored porcelain clays, spun on the wheel, integrating the colors.

Nerikomi - a hand building technique piecing together different sections of colored porcelain design, and either forming a slab built vessel or a press molded vessel. This is perhaps the most difficult colored porcelain clay technique, as cracks can occur at any stage of the process. (the unmentionables - cracks)

Mishima - this technique can be applied to handbuilt or wheel-thrown pottery. After the greenware (or raw) clay has stiffened to leather hard stage (not quite bone dry, but dryer than wet clay) a design is engraved into the clay. The grooves, or channels created during the engraving process, are filled with a colored slip (wet, colored clay). After this dries sufficiently, the excess slip is scraped off, leaving the surface of the pottery smooth and level.

Sgraffito - sgraffito is an Italian word meaning - to scratch. This colored porcelain clay technique is the opposite of mishima. A layer of slip (wet clay) is applied to the surface of the pottery, and a design is carved into the wet slip. This etching reveals the color underneath the slip. With sgraffito, the design is not flush to the surface of the pottery; it is slightly raised, and the etched design does not get filled in.

Relief Carving - Teresa enjoys carving colored porcelain clay with various flowers and sometimes leaves with a bas-relief, or low relief design.

Hand Painting - We have begun to incorporate “painting” portions of our hand-colored porcelain pottery with underglazes, adding another dimension to the surface of porcelain vessels.

We color all of our porcelain by hand to create one of a kind color combinations. There are times when a new clay enters the market, that we just HAVE to try, whether it’s a stoneware clay, or a colored porcelain clay that is colored by the manufacturer. We will set our hand colored porcelain aside, for a little while, to try out this new clay, and will always share the results with you.

Biography

I think I must have been born with a paintbrush in hand and an enthusiasm for color and fine art from a very early age. As a child, my artwork hung on everything from refrigerators to walls, from elementary school classrooms to neighbor’s basement walls and beyond. I had an elderly neighbor, Mrs. Johnson, who lived alone and would give me a “Mary Jane” candy for every piece of artwork I would bring over to her. I stocked up on “Mary Jane’s” and Mrs. Johnson stocked up on my childhood artwork.

Academics: My higher academic studies were Paralegal studies at Nova University in Florida and International Business and Law at Georgetown University, during a time in the 90s when I thought I was going to be a lawyer, and the Academy of Art University when I finally decided that being an artist was my calling.

I also took art courses at the Maryland College of Art and Design. However, it has been my years of self-study, copying Master paintings, taking workshops, learning from master artists, and reading from my art book collection that has been my most fulfilling educational experience as an artist.

Inspiration: I believe it takes a lifetime to develop an artistic skill and so, I began by copying the masters I loved, taking frequent workshops from artists I looked up to, and a few college courses in art, all the time working on my artistic skills and developing my personality on canvas.

I have studied under the inspiration and tutelage of living masters such as Richard Schmid and Dan Schultz, just to name a few, and have extensively studied the works of masters Helen VanWyk, Edward Hopper, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Lilla Cabot Perry, Winslow Homer, and Elisabeth-Louise Vegee-Lebrun.

Always the perpetual student, I continue to grow and develop my mastery of oil and pastel painting, while caring for my family.

In my professional career since 1995, I have become an accomplished artist, selling my paintings to collectors as far away as Italy and Paris, and to many collectors throughout the United States. My work can also be found in a number of corporate collections and business establishments. I have had a number of successful one-woman exhibits and have won recognition in a number of Artist competitions.

I consider myself to be an accomplished entrepreneur and blogger. My personal blog, Raisin Toast, has provided me an opportunity to connect with other women, creatives, and mothers around the globe, and has won a number of awards for my content and design. Raisin Toast has stories about my artwork, family, new home build, reflection, being a grand parent, and also some quilting and sewing stories. It is my life in a nutshell. Biography

The more I paint, the more I want to paint. Seeing something new come out of an idea is gratifying, even when it doesn’t turn out as intended. There is no end to learning or to challenges. There are also endless opportunities to see more around me in a different way. It makes my life richer.

I spent many years in IT as a systems analyst mainly supporting Finance departments. I’ve taken long detours from the art journey - getting a computer science degree, working full-time, raising sons, attending lots of ballgames - but I always did keep art in there at least a little. I know painting has helped me through a few difficult times along the way.

I grew up on a farm in rural Minnesota where do-it-yourself was a way of life. Now, after many years of living in a metropolitan area, I’m back to rural life in western Wisconsin. It feels really good.

Based in the heart of rural Alabama, nestled amidst the lush landscapes and charming architecture that inspire her paintings, is artist Debra Davis. Born at Fort Benning in Columbus. GA, Davis’ early life was shaped by the transient nature of her father’s naval career. Moving frequently and attending different schools each year, Davis cultivated a quiet personality.

The calling to be an artist didn’t echo until when she was in ninth grade. She surprised herself by falling in love with drawing - the thrill of creating something recognizable was exhilarating. Her artistic genes may have been inherited from her musician father and brother, for she discovered an innate talent despite not having formal art classes until later in life.

She balanced her craft with her personal life, getting married early and having a child, and with her professional commitments, which saw her serve 20 years in corporate America. Even as her life was filled with obligations, the dream of painting never faded. It continued as a hobby, with frequent purchases of art supplies in anticipation of having time to create.

When she finally found the space to engage with her art, Davis dove in with acrylics before transitioning to oils, drawn by their capacity to better express her feelings. Today, she continually seeks to better her craft by attending numerous art workshops. She studies other artists and their techniques, learning and adopting them, but always making sure to add her unique touch.

Her passion for capturing the beauty in everyday rural life radiates in her work. She is drawn to scenes that might seem less than perfect to the average eye but thrives on bringing the unexpected to life on her canvas. To achieve this, Davis fully immerses herself in her subject matter, using all her senses to understand it before picking up a brush. This approach, combined with her use of color and texture, has become her signature technique and sets her work apart.

Her labor of love has not gone unnoticed. Davis took first place at her very first show in Covington, Georgia. She later won Best in Show in another competition and also placed third at the Atlanta Artist Association.

However, Davis is not one to sit on laurels. She continues to find inspiration and challenge in rural America’s landscapes, lovingly translating barns, streams, trees, and forgotten vintage items onto her canvas. Her favorite projects often revolve around these subjects.

A notable influence on her work is John Pototschnik, a color master whose style evokes different moods across his different scenes. His work has helped Davis develop the visual language she uses to express the tranquility and peace she sees in the world around her. She also enjoys working with Amanda Lovett, who mentored with John, and frequently takes workshops with her to learn her techniques for realistic landscapes.

Davis is currently an active member of several art organizations, nationally with Oil Painters of America and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society and regionally and locally including the Columbus Artist Guild, Auburn Arts Association, Opelika-Auburn Visual Voice, Visual Arts Association of LaGrange, and the Montgomery Arts Guild.

As she looks forward, Davis plans to continue honing her craft and sharing the alluring beauty of rural life. She believes in the critical role of art in society as a conduit of shared emotion and understanding. Davis wants her work to continue resonating with peaceful and calming feelings among those who view it. Her goal is to continue capturing the marvels of everyday life and expressing them in vibrant colors and textures on canvas. For Debra Davis, the journey is just as important as the destination, resulting in art that is as satisfying to create as it is to view.

Biography

Born in Wisconsin and raised in Montana, Ned Mueller has been drawing and painting all of his life. He is one of the few Artists that have been designated as a “Master Artist” by both the American Impressionist Society and the Oil Painters of America. He graduated from the prestigious Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles where he also taught drawing while still a student. His love for life and art is reflected in his superb paintings of a wide range of subjects including Portraits, Figures, Animals and Landscapes, both studio and plein air.

Ned worked as an illustrator for 25 years while building a solid foundation of professionalism and has worked as a successful full time artist since 1984. He continued to enhance his knowledge and skills by taking workshops with master artists Harley Brown, Richard Schmid, Bettina Steinke, Del Gish, and Sergei Bongart.

He has written several articles on painting for the Artists Magazine and has a monthly column on all things about Art in the Modern Impressionist Magazine. He is called upon to jury shows, and is a popular and enthusiastic workshop teacher around the country and abroad. He was a consultant for Walt Disney Imagineering where he did wonderful concept work for Animal Kingdom, Tokyo Disney Sea, California and other projects.

Nicole Moné is an award-winning, American artist originally from Southern California and currently living and painting in Westchester County, New York. Her representational paintings reside in collections throughout the United States and Internationally. Her work has been featured on the cover of Artists Magazine and her paintings have appeared in the publications: American Art Collector, American Artist, Artists Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air, and PoetsArtists, as well as in China’s Collections Magazine. Among her exhibitions, Nicole has shown at the MEAM Museum - European Museum of Modern Art (Barcelona, Spain), the Museo Pablo Serrano (Zaragoza, Spain), the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, Sotheby’s Auction House in Los Angeles, Steamboat Art Museum (S.A.M.) in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, New York’s Salmagundi Club, the National Arts Club (NYC), and at the Butler Institute of American Art (Youngstown, OH). Some of Nicole’s works were also used in Season 4 of the SHOWTIME crime drama, Ray Donovan.

Nicole’s paintings incorporate elements of both Realism and Impressionism and are characterized by the application of traditional techniques and classical methods. Drawing from her life experiences, Nicole often uses humor or nostalgia as she endeavors to make an emotional connection between painting and viewer.

Nicole has studied portraiture in Italy, at the Florence Academy of Art, and in New York, at the School of Visual Arts where she studied portraiture with Marvin Mattelson, and at the Art Students League where she studied painting with Aaron Shikler and Everett Raymond Kinstler. Additionally she has studied with painters, Max Ginsberg and Jeremy Lipking.
