Biography
I have always loved color. One of the best gifts my mother gave me was the sweetest watercolor tin, large, and full of many lovely squares of paint. Next was my 64-color Crayola Crayon box. I knew the name of every color before I could read. Those two gifts kept me busy for hours. I still remember painting with the hurricane shutters up in Florida when I was four years old.
Art (and music) were big parts of my childhood. My young adult life did not flow in that direction, but I tried to keep up through the years of banking and finance. Still attracted to color and the innate need to create. Now I have been blessed to have the opportunity to explore and share my love of art from studios in both Sarasota Florida and Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Watercolor allows me to express a wide range of emotions and share them without using words. I use nature's landscapes as a starting point to create expressive and poignant statements rather than a literal copy of what I see.
I love the drama created by the lights and darks, the harmony of colors as they mingle. The show they put on playing off each other. The romance. The playfulness. The dance of the water and paint, the soft and hard edges. The delightful illusions as the water creates its own designs and tells a story. To me, the paintings are alive; they breathe, they fill me with emotion and bring me joy
My paintings range from realistic to impressionistic and include both Plein Air and studio work. While I enjoy creating many subjects, landscapes have a special place my heart. In recent years I have won several awards for my paintings, being recognized for bold colors and a painterly style
I offer my interpretations of God's creations in vivid colorist-style watercolor and oil paintings, as well as dramatic charcoal drawings, to release the light and life of the great Creator into the lives of others.
