Biography
Benjamin Pitman is an enthusiastic amateur artist, working in the small town of Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, nestled in the heart of Cumberland County. Benjamin started his artistic studies at Mount Allison University in the Fine Arts Department but switched to Engineering after his first year. Thirty-five years later, he returned to his first true passion and began painting again.
His topics are typically wildlife and figurative work, however, the pandemic stirred a need to discover new styles and new endeavours, including painting outside the studio (En Plein Air). Benjamin has committed to weekly Plein Air painting and teaching monthly beginner watercolour classes in the small towns of Cumberland County. Benjamin focuses on local treasures, that are most near and dear to people that live there. He especially loves painting those secret hideaways, the ones with a compelling story of local history; abandoned buildings, local favorite restaurants and watering holes; as well as places where people have worked or played.
