Biography
Cathyann Burgess has been a practicing artist and educator all of her adult life. Her vibrant use of color and texture enliven her canvases, displaying her versatile skill in both representational and abstract traditions.
With a MSEd in Art from SUNY College at Buffalo, NY, Cathyann boasts over 30 years of teaching experience in various art settings, including formal schools, museums, and private workshops.
After retiring from teaching in 2006, Cathyann delved into further learning by studying portraiture, her first love from childhood, under master painters Nelson Shanks and Daniel Greene. She firmly believes in lifelong learning and its enriching effects.
Since settling in Hendersonville, North Carolina, in 2014, Cathyann has found inspiration in the ancient mountains of Western North Carolina. She enjoys experimenting with different artistic media, finding it both invigorating and illuminating for her oil painting practice.Her works often draw inspiration from the local landscape, gardens and birds. Cathyann paints in her home studio and gallery at Cummings Cove. She enjoys plein air painting which feeds her landscape passion.Her work evolves continuously through daily practice, with landscapes becoming increasingly expressive and abstract over time.
Cathyann’s award winning works are in numerous private and corporate collections.
