Biography

As a very young child I loved to draw. Nothing brought more pleasure than a simple box of Crayons. Like most people though, as I got older my artistic endeavors ended other than the typical school art curriculum. There I was neither discouraged or encouraged. Life goes in many directions and once I was an empty nester that yearning reawakened. I cannot account for why, but my entire adult I have been mesmerized by the medium of watercolor. The fluidity, the transparency, the magical effects that can occur when various pigments interact with each other. Every time it is like a mystery that gets revealed, often in unpredictable ways. The desire to learn how to achieve what others were creating with this gorgeous medium was so powerful. One day at an art center in Indianapolis I happened upon a display of watercolor student work and that’s when my “aha” moment occurred. I realized I didn’t want to just admire watercolor paintings, I wanted to become a watercolorist and so my dream unfolded. January 1st, 2015, I committed myself to learning how to paint. I painted when I was sick, tired, stressed. Everyday. Failed paintings did not stop me. Discouragement did not stop me.
There is a reason why watercolor has the reputation for being the most difficult of all mediums. It is a well deserved reputation. I knew the learning curve would be long and slow. Persistence has paid off. In 2020 I earned my signature status from the Georgia Watercolor Society, a mark of distinction for achieving a high standard based on getting juried into shows including mandatory acceptance into the National Exhibition. So my dream has become a reality. Watercolor painting (along with other various mediums such as pastels and graphite) is an intrinsic part of who I am today. It still challenges and frustrates on some days, but always the joy of creating art is always there. I constantly challenge myself as an artist to paint a large variety of subject matter as every object and texture requires a different approach, particularly for a realism painter. My love of painting the world around me and my ideas of what to paint next never ends. Welcome to my life’s passion and thank you for reading. :)
