BoldBrush Recommends: Cynthia Arieta

Biography
Cynthia Arieta is a painter living and working in a creaky old farmhouse in New Hampshire. Her sensitive, abstract works are layered and richly textured meditations on nature, humanity and the relationship of both with life.
Arieta’s intuitive approach to painting translates her lived experience in the world onto the surface, creating complex compositions that breathe with life. Her thoughtful use of acrylics, oil and wax - layered, scraped, and reformed over several months- recalls the vitality of Abstract Expressionist painters as well as the Impressionist painters Arieta was influenced by.
Created over long periods of time, Arieta’s paintings evolve through countless iterations as she follows her process - covering entire passages over as as something new emerges. This process requires her willingness to listen to where the painting itself wants to go, and to risk destruction again and again.
