Biography
Creating art in nature is my lifelong journey. Every stroke of paint in a plein air painting reflects a moment of time as I experience each passing season. The pastel medium with pure and intense pigments offers the perfect complement to the colorful bounty of nature.
The outdoors offers me an open-air studio in beautiful, nurturing places worthy of savoring. Hiking with painting gear, I explore the landscape in slow motion to intimately get to know a marsh, valley, or stream. My work calls attention to the places we cherish but need to protect and restore.
My work explores the intersection of abstraction and representational styles. I start by abstracting shapes and contours of the vista I see before me. Exuberant colors and bold mark-making capture the movement, energy, and emotion of the day. The approach results in seeing the natural world through a vibrant and color-forward lens.
I am represented by Gallery One CT and my work is held in private collections across the US and in public collections including the Yale Smilow Cancer Center and Yale Art Space in New Haven, CT. As an arts advocate, I am active in national and regional arts organizations including the American Women Artists, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Mystic Museum of Arts, CT Pastel Society, Lyme Art Association and New Haven Paint and Clay Club.
