BoldBrush Recommends: Donalee Stuck

Biography
Donalee Stuck is a painter, former musician and entrepreneur.
From a small town on the East coast near Lake Erie, as a child, Donalee’s mother had a beauty salon in the front of her house and she would take the beauty magazines and draw the eyes of the models in the magazines.
Still drawing throughout her childhood Donalee was very much influenced to pursue art by her high school art teacher. Studying classical piano since the age of 5 and headed toward a career as a concert pianist, she decided to stop piano by the age of 16.
By the age of 19, Donalee had joined a rock band from her town and toured as a keyboard player for about a year. She absolutely loved the energy and music from that era. 1970-1980’s rock-n-roll which has influenced her love of drawing and painting, always starting out listening to Pink Floyd when settling down to paint.
Donalee decided to try college after that to explore the classical side of piano again and take a few drawing and painting classes. One semester in, she met her future husband. He had started a business and she left school to pursue an entrepreneurship with him. They made their own ice cream, had a car wash and a laundromat. She married, had 3 beautiful, smart, children and ran 3 successful businesses with her husband for 40 years. Also adding another business for the last 10 of the 40 years.
Now retired, Donalee moved to the southwest and is enjoying her new home studio and art community in Southern Arizona, joining the Santa Rita Art League and the Tubac Center of the Arts.
From ongoing learning and practicing she’s developed a good following from painting pet portraits. She’s found that painting is her passion and the satisfaction of the clients faces and the joy they feel when they receive either their memorial portrait or their adorable living pet portrait, has been life changing for her.
Since moving to the Southwest, an avid hiker, she has been influenced by the wild life and has done a series of wild life paintings.
Still learning about her craft, Donalee has discovered that she wants to pursue a more creative side to her paintings. Painting about who and what she is, is the next pursuit she is about to undertake and she can’t wait to share with the world more of her authentic self!
