Ela Lechoszest was born in 1986 in Raciborz, Poland. Her fascination with oil painting began to flourish when an exceptional artist, Damian Lechoszest, entered her life. He later became her husband and remains the most devoted critic of her work.
After several years of being surrounded by art, Ela decided to confront her own limitations and begin her journey with oil painting. Twenty years ago, under Damian’s guidance, she started to paint and share her work publicly, choosing to do so under the pseudonym Jan Gustaw. It became her invisible cloak, allowing her to explore, create, and learn without being influenced by the opinions of the outside world. Over the course of ten years of practice, art gradually became an extension of her soul, and the canvas became a magical realm where a story could be born.
After a decade of painting under a pseudonym, Ela decided to step out from the shadow of anonymity and sign her first work with her real name. It felt like freeing a bird from its cage. Today, her easel painting, full of expression and deep emotion, focuses mainly on portraits and still lifes, often featuring the motif of butterflies, with particular attention given to the painting of light. For Ela, the butterfly has become a symbol of emergence and change - a passage from the hidden stage of creation under the male pseudonym Jan Gustaw, which may be seen as a kind of caterpillar stage, to painting openly under her own name, like a butterfly finally revealing its true form.
Ela does not limit herself to her own creative world. She actively participates in projects, group and solo exhibitions, sharing her passion with a wider audience. Her painting workshops for preschool children are like magical messages, where art becomes a form of play and a way of discovering one’s own creative potential.
Ela’s works are held in private collections both in Poland and abroad.
