Biography
Hi my name is Iwen Yong. Welcome and thanks for visiting my website.
I started my career as an accountant. I have never really had an interest in art as I did not have the opportunity to pursue art early on. It was a work colleague (after seeing a whiteboard drawing I had done of my dog) who introduced me to oil painting. Since that time I have been progressing my skills mainly through books, DVDs and workshops. Most recently I sought the help of a well established NZ artist who has helped me progress immensely.
My paintings are mostly of New Zealand landscapes and predominately of the Wairarapa region (as this is where I am based). Through my paintings I try to convey the beauty and remoteness of the place in a contemporary modern way. I want my paintings to be expressive and loose but also have a good sense of realism.
I am a full time artist and I regularly exhibit in galleries and shows around New Zealand. I am also a member of the NZ academy of fine arts.
NZ artists who influence my works include John Crump, Douglas Badcock and Peter Mcintyre.
