Biography
My current body of work examines rural life, particularly through the lens of being a woman and mother. A social extrovert, I enjoy meeting new people and love hearing their stories; this can be seen in my portraiture. However, another chunk of my still life work explores the quiet moments of being a wife and mother, the quiet amidst the chaos....it's as if motherhood had a "Pause" button. We all know full well it does not. I try to evoke a sense of nostalgia and the wonder in everyday.
My primary focus of my work is to bring joy, encouragement and appreciation for the small things, for the mundane blessings in life. Lately, I've been into small still life paintings of nostalgic toys and drawings. I'm gleaning many ideas from my own children and their daily life of play. This kind of retrospection is having me pull out some of my own toys from my childhood and paint them with a new reverence.
I hope you too, can see some of this in my work.
Love,
Jenn
