Biography
Katrina Lubbecke's paintings express her love of wilderness landscapes and wildlife. Her realistic paintings seek to preserve moments in time and enhance the interaction between the viewer and the landscape. She considers herself a student of nature, spending hours outside drawing the landscape and animals on the eastern Oregon ranch where she grew up. Her outdoor experiences have given her a great love for the drama and moods of the landscape and beauty of creation. From an early age she has made a lifelong study of historic journals that describe places and wildlife that have changed or vanished during the course of time. She feels it is important to capture the ambiance of places of solitude, the ever changing personalities of wildlife, or document visible remnants of the past that survive to today. She studied mechanical drafting and art history in college and has a deep appreciation for studying different types of historical art. Many American painters of the realist, luminist and tonalist movements influence her work with their beautifully rendered landscapes, classical draftsmanship, and use of light.
Lubbecke's paintings have been included in many National Juried Exhibitions, including NOAPS "Best of America", Realism on the Hudson, The Bosque Classic, Miniatures By The Lake, and the Western States Horse Expo.
Artist statement: "I paint to celebrate the beauty of the landscape and wildlife and I hope my paintings uplift and inspire others."
