BoldBrush Recommends: Karen Ann Hitt

Biography
Karen Ann Hitt is an award-winning artist, classically trained at Parson’s School of Design in New York, majoring in Illustration.
That classic background is ever evident in her style, along with her love of capturing the figure and the effects of light in all of her scenes. Her paintings are noted to accentuate the effects of light, adding to their luminosity with her landscapes/skyscapes reflecting the essence of the landmark. Karen’s award-winning paintings have been collected by private and corporate collections, such as Venice City Hall locally and nationally received by a U.S. President. Her Illustrations have been published nationally in both children’s picture books and distributed in a line of gifts.
“I always feel awestruck when an artist can truly capture light. At capturing that light none can do so better with a figure than Vermeer, or in a landscape like Turner. Few capture expressions with a single brush stroke as Sargent, or illustrate the complete scene with richness of color and figures better than N.C. Wyeth. Cassatt’s ability to portray the warmth of a mood is amazing. The Hudson River School artists’ ability to portray the scale, atmosphere and light of the landscape before them has always left me with a passion to do the same. There is so much to learn from all the masters.”
Hitt returned to Florida from Washington State in 1995, residing since in Venice. Raising three children as a single parent from 1998, opportunity arose in 2013 to take on the next season in her life. “Bottom line, I wouldn’t have been able to make it out my door, or back to my door without family and friends. I am blessed with more of them than I deserve. I owe them a LOT! These are debts of kindness and finances that I am looking forward to repaying. I have jested that ‘baby turned 22 and momma took a road trip’ - a really big road trip. My 82-year-old dad and 22-year-old son were placed in charge of my house while I was away. Little did they know, they both were in charge of keeping an eye on the other. It seemed like the best plan at the time, filling a need for each of us. So, home-front taken care of: Check.” Karen Ann, Hitt the road!
