FASO Collector Recommends: Karen Lemens

Biography
Karen (Kara) Lemens paints life and light in a realistically impressionistic style in oils and gouache. She paints a variety of subjects, but primarily is inspired by the beauty of wild places, most often the wonders of Summit County, Colorado, and the American West. Kara is passionate about nature and spends time outdoors daily-- hiking, biking, skiing, or snowshoeing. She especially loves painting on location (en plein air) with her border collie, Frisco, and she’s always up for a plein air adventure wherever life takes her. She also enjoys creating still lifes in her studio, combining the natural beauties of fruits and flowers with objects of timeless beauty.
Kara prefers painting alla prima or from life whenever possible. All her paintings have their origins in a from-life or plein air sketch and she hopes that direct and personal connection to her subjects comes through to viewers. Her goal is to share the joy and beauty that she experiences with others and to celebrate the natural world and express her reverence for it.
Kara is a member of various art associations including AIS, OPA, OPS, and LPAPA and has participated in numerous juried shows. She is grateful that she gets to spend her time with a paintbrush in her hand and that her art enables her to share with others some of the beauty and wonder she finds in wild places.
