FASO Collector Recommends: Karen Mark
Biography
Karen is a native of northeastern Pennsylvania and migrated to Michigan from Philadelphia in 2019.
While working in the corporate world in Philadelphia, the urge to pursue her creative side started to grow. Having no formal art school training, she took advantage of the many community art centers in the Philadelphia area and studied with professional artists throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Now retired from her position as a senior vice president in a national title insurance agency, she works on developing and evolving as an artist. Many subjects appeal to her, but favorites include the figure, portraiture and architectural renderings. Most current work is in watercolor, gouache and acrylic, however, other media are often incorporated in her work. Her style varies according to the subject matter, but the impressionists are a big influence in her work.
While in Philadelphia, Karen became a juried member of The Plastic Club and the Philadelphia Sketch Club, two of the oldest artists’ clubs in the country.
In Michigan, Karen has become an active member of The Heritage Association of Hillsdale County, ArtWorks of Hillsdale, the North Country Artist Alliance and the Jackson Civic Art Association, in which she now serves as Treasurer.
Karen has shown her work in various venues in Pennsylvania and Michigan and has received numerous awards. Her work is included in the Temple University School of Pharmacy Art Gallery and in private collections.
She currently resides in Hillsdale with her husband, Richard Stabile.
