Biography
I am an artist because I have to be. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning, that.... and coffee.
I paint every day, I sing every day, and I learn every day."
Kitt Moran is an American painter and celebrated singer. Her paintings are highly respected for her bold and confident brushstrokes as well as her use of the pallet knife.. Even though Kitt paints a variety of subjects, her main love is portraiture. "Art is a solitary self exploration. When I paint, I not only get to know my subject but I get to know myself better too. I want my paintings to have life and emotion. I love people and I want to know who they are."
Moran came to painting later in life. Although busy with a successful singing career, Kitt always had a grand passion for art. And in in 2007 Moran picked up a brush and began to create.
Kitt was encouraged to enter juried art shows and proceeded to win awards for her paintings in less than a year after she began to paint. The judges' comments typically included "shows an emotional connection" and "confident strokes with brush and pallet knife...The painting has energy," comments reminiscent of reviews of her singing: a New York Newsday critic called her "vibrant, fearless and convincing"
"On my first visit to the Musée d'Orsay, I was happily checking out my favorite Impressionists when I turned a corner and came face to face with Van Gogh's Sun Flowers! I literally burst out crying. And it wasn't the last time something like this happened to me. But I didn't pick up a brush or a palette knife till 2007. On our way to a Christmas party, my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I said " I want art classes." That was just the beginning. I continue to study with many generous teachers. My main medium is oil, my subjects are as varied as my interests but portraiture remains my favorite form of artistic expression. As a working professional singer, even songs have now become paintings. I see the perfect pressure of a brushstroke in the lyric, or just the right color and value for each note. Each song is a visual image with the harmony, rhythm, color, and contrast of a painting. I approach my painting with the same intensity, passion, and humor. I paint every day, I sing every day, and I learn every day."
