BoldBrush Recommends: LaRhee Webster

Biography
Artist’s Statement
For me, painting is personal. I paint the things I love and the places I want to be. I paint what I do because I feel a strong visual and emotional connection with my subjects. Every painting has a story and my goal is to tell that story and share it with others. I love celebrating nature through my art.
Artist’s Biography
LaRhee Webster is best known for her interpretations in oils of the California countryside as well as her engaging depictions of animals, both wild and domestic. “I’ve lived in California my entire life, and so much of the beautiful countryside that I know and love is disappearing. Many of my landscapes seek to capture those natural scenes before they get paved over or built on.” Webster’s treatment of her subjects goes beyond a literal interpretation as she imbues her landscapes with keenly observed light and shadow. “When I paint, I enter the scene of the painting to the point of great empathy. I can smell the grasses, the moss on the water, the sea salt in the air, the funk of old wood. I hear the birds, the breeze, the surf, the ripples in the water. I want to transport the viewers there. To love our countryside is to protect it, and I want to do what I can to help save our heritage.”
Artist LaRhee Webster was born and raised in what is now called Silicon Valley, California. On her family’s farm near the foothills south of San Jose, she grew up wandering the local hills and creeks on foot and horseback, where her love of California’s outdoors was cemented at a young age. After spending her professional life as an award winning graphic designer and illustrator involved in the corporate world of marketing and advertising, she has returned to her passion for oil painting.
Her paintings of animals, California hills and rural settings reflects the beauty and joy of a lifetime love affair with the light and colors of the California countryside. Her many years as an avid sea kayaker adds an authenticity to her coastal paintings. She currently resides in Palo Alto CA. LaRhee’s paintings are enjoyed in private collections across the US and internationally.
