FASO Collector Recommends: Laurie Roodt
Biography
Laurie grew up in South Africa before immigrating to New Zealand with her husband and four children over twenty years ago. She is an advocate of distance learning, having obtained a B.Compt degree from the University of South Africa followed by twenty-seven years of home educating her children. A move to the very remote Marlborough Sounds at the top of New Zealand’s South Island resulted in her enrolment with the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and her Master’s degree in Fine Art. Her fascination with place and people has resulted in an exploration of the age-old genre: The Tronie (face or head). She continues to develop her visual language through oil paint on aluminium to present her viewer with an intimate glimpse into the soul of her subjects.
