BoldBrush Recommends: Marion Evamy

Biography
I am Marion Evamy, otherwise known as "me!" the artist ....you'll notice my signature is m.e. for my initials and an exclamation mark to indicate I want to live my life as an exclamation not an explanation.
'I am an experimentalist, allowing mystery and magic moments to appear on the canvas. Travel, design, music, nature and most obviously, colour, are my major influences - from all over the world.
The first part of my life was spent in Calgary in real estate and marketing jobs, but my love of art and design, fostered by my architect father, could not be denied.
I am widely influenced - like a musical jet stream.
Most people would consider me an abstract expressionist painter. My techniques and approaches vary, depending on the subject matter. The guiding principles are joy, humour, strength, mystery and boldness. My passions are strong and sophisticated colour, people watching, animals and being out in Mother Nature.
I have many art influences ranging from the Modern Masters, Picasso, Klimt and Modigliani to many contemporary painters, especially those in the Bay area of California and the Southwest.
My abstracts are more oriented towards playing with colours, shapes and space, and creating a vibrant composition. They are great 'mind-benders' - challenging my ability to problem solve as I paint! Often these paintings are inspired by music I love, and the titles of songs make their way into the creations. I am predominantly self taught, with one year of art school training in the early 80's after completing my University degree in Psychology and Art History.
I've been painting as a professional artist for about 20 years and I take workshops from other amazing artists at least once a year. Otherwise, I experiment and follow the "no fear" method of painting. I believe this is what gives my work the energy and drama that my collectors cherish.
I create and sell 75 to 100 paintings a year, and work mainly with acrylic paint and mixed media such as collage, pastels, and oil sticks. My collectors range from art-savvy baby boomers to corporate clients and also many fellow artists and creative types!
My wonderful husband Bobb helps keep me organized with my extensive inventory, and our experience includes running our own retail gallery for six years, the Red Art Gallery in Victoria, B.C.
We now run the gallery from our ocean front home in beautiful Sidney by the Sea. I am also represented by Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art and Butter Gallery in Ontario.
I am a contemporary painter who brings the 'wow' factor to a room. Joy and compassion, sophisticated colours - and a delight for mystery and intrigue, your soul will connect with a "me!" painting.
