FASO Collector Recommends: Marion Hedger
Biography
Marion creates contemporary abstract art that explores the deep connection between time, place, and color. Largely self-taught, her early work focused on impressionistic landscapes and florals. But in 2017, after joining Nicholas Wilton’s Creative Visionary Path (CVP) program, her practice evolved. Embracing bold abstraction, she discovered a more intuitive and expressive language-one that continues to define her work today.
Her creative process is both intentional and spontaneous. Each painting begins with layers of vibrant color, laid down instinctively. Through scraping, sanding, and mark-making, Marion builds rich textures and reveals hidden layers, echoing the complexity of memory and experience. Her compositions are bold and striking from a distance, yet richly detailed up close, inviting the viewer into a more intimate dialogue.
“I use color as my language to communicate experiences,” she says. “It holds emotional weight and sets the tone. I never start with a fixed outcome in mind-the painting evolves through the interaction of form, texture, and intuition. The final marks bring it all together, creating a visual harmony that feels both grounded and dynamic.”
Now based in the south of France, near Nice, Marion draws constant inspiration from the landscape around her. The lavender fields, sunflower meadows, and dramatic contours of the Alps infuse her work with a vibrant palette and a sense of movement. Each piece becomes a visual record-a reflection of place, emotion, and the passing of time.
