Biography
2025. It has such a significant ring to it, the promise of great things to come.
And I believe this will be a great year for my art business. There’s a buzz around Wilderness Art Studios these days as we combine our forces with the Boulder Art Association (who just celebrated their 100th anniversary!) and Open Studios newest gallery at Boulder Junction. Together we intend to get the word out about our opportunities for the communities around us to experience art up close, get to know their local artists and help us grow a thriving art community in Boulder, Colorado.
Last year I illustrated my second book, A West Virginia Christmas Story by John Thomas, who is donating all proceeds to help the children of Appalachia. I found a home for my painting, Following the Trails Blazed by Those Before Me, at the stunning Academy on Mapleton Hill. This painting was done over a 5’ x 6’ family portrait from the 70s. It was gifted to me to repurpose so it could have a new life, just another example of the wonderfully unexpected things that happen to me as an artist.
In 2019 I had an epiphany during a Muse Destination painting workshop at La Porte Peinte in Noyers-sur-Serein, France - that I had been depriving myself of something essential to my emotional health and combatting depression - creativity. During my fellowship at La Porte Peinte in 2024 I explored new media and took a closer look at my art, my process, my voice and story. I produced work I would never have created had I not been pushed out of my comfort zone, and I’m eternally grateful for that opportunity to grow as an artist.
Art is the most natural form of anti-depressant, and something that is now a part of my life no matter what. Learning that lesson, and being able to prioritize creativity in my life, is the most important thing that has happened to me in years. I am so grateful for all of the people who support my decision and encourage me to continue.
