Biography
As an Air Force "brat", I grew up in mainly in Texas and Florida, with stops in Hawaii and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Graduating from Florida State University with a B.A. in Visual Communications, I later received a M.A. in Biomedical Communications from the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School. I am a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators, and a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. After working as a medical illustrator in Houston and Miami, I travelled to Montana to work for Medical Multimedia group. In 2007 my husband and I formed Specialized Engineering and Illustration, PLLC which combines his civil and structural engineering business and my fine art work.
Although I have always had sketchbooks and have done other art during my career as a medical illustrator, I began to revisit landscape and wildlife art more seriously when my husband and I began taking trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness in 2002. The 50 acres around our house on Downing mountain west of Hamilton, MT along with our frequent trips to Yellowstone National Park are also great sources of inspiration.
I am always attracted to the light in a landscape, often just looking out at the alpenglow outside our home office window, or the variations of light in the trees. Different seasons offer many incentives for creating art. Whether at home or on our wildlife watching trips in the Park, animals and birds big and small also provide continual reasons creating artwork.
Currently my work is primarily digital painting using Corel Painter and Procreate, as well as a variety of traditional media including pencil, watercolor, and acrylics.
