BoldBrush Recommends: Rebecca Arguello

Biography
Rebecca Arguello, born in 1977 and a fifth-generation native of Santa Barbara, California, grew up immersed in a rich cultural and diverse ecological environment . These experiences laid the foundation for her artistic journey. "My passion for ecology began early in my childhood. Growing up in the ocean and in local after-school programs truly sparked my curiosity about the environment," she recalls, ultimately leading her to pursue environmental sciences at UCSB.
In 2014, Rebecca made the pivotal decision to focus entirely on painting after the tragic loss of her sister, Rachel. "I discovered that art was my sanctuary," she reflects, acknowledging how creativity helped her navigate life's challenges. Entering the S.C.A.P.E. (Southern California Painters for the Environment) art show in 2018, she won three awards, a turning point in her career. "That show made me realize that art wasn't just something I loved-it was something I could truly pursue professionally."
Rebecca's scientific mindset influences her approach to art, bringing a meticulous eye to capturing both beauty and the underlying structures and patterns in her seascapes and landscapes. Her dedication to improvement is evident through the numerous workshops and classes she has taken with renowned artists. This dedication, along with her commitment to environmentalism, shines through in her work, allowing her to seek both external and internal solace through painting.
"I aim to express the energy and emotions I feel in the natural world," she shares. "The vastness of nature fills me with a sense of awe, a reminder that there's something much bigger than my individual worries. That feeling of wonder drives me creatively, and I aim to share that experience with others through my work."
Rebecca also holds an ongoing teaching engagement at Pixar University, where she teaches oil painting to employees of one of the world's leading creative companies. In addition, she serves as a California Art Club Chapter Chair for the San Francisco Bay Area. These roles have allowed her to share her expertise with a new generation of creatives and actively contribute to the art community, further expanding her influence and fostering artistic growth.
Rebecca's work has garnered national and international recognition, with an impressive portfolio of exhibitions, awards, and private collections worldwide. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to capture the essence of her subjects continues to position her as a notable figure in the contemporary art world.
