BoldBrush Recommends: Robert Impellizzeri

Biography
Rob Impellizzeri’s interest in art started at an early age and continued through his teen years when he won regional competitions in pastel and oil crayon. Thus rewarded and inspired, he took private oil painting lessons from a reclusive artist in a rustic art studio in the New Jersey woodlands. However, though he maintained a passion for art, he pursued a different path in life, graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, then serving in the Army and retiring as a Colonel. He subsequently served and retired as a Program Engineering Manager in the aerospace defense industry. These careers took center stage until 2010.
In September 2010 on a beach in Hawaii, Rob met Rich Gallego, an accomplished artist/instructor living in the high desert area near Acton, CA. Rich became Rob’s instructor and mentor, and a sounding board for the sharing of ideas. In his desire to continue to grow Rob participated in a life changing 10 day intensive workshop in June 2011 conducted by the acclaimed landscape painter Scott Christensen. The lessons from past greats flowed from Scott, and Rob continues to apply those lessons daily. Rob has continued to seek out excellent instructors, and has been fortunate to study with Matt Smith, Jean LeGassick, Kevin Macpherson, Michael Lynch and Frank Serrano.
Rob is on a continuing journey of growth through study and practice. His evolving style can be described as representational with a hint of abstract shapes. His plein air approach springs from the inspiration he gets from his love of nature, and his use of suggestive brush strokes provides the viewer the opportunity to explore his paintings. By engaging the viewer he hopes to inspire others to enjoy and preserve the natural beauty and variety of our western landscapes and seascapes. Rob regularly ventures out to paint and battle the elements from the high desert, to local ranch properties, to the coastal mountains and seascapes of California and beyond.
