Biography
Nature is my passion, Art and Science are the lenses I use to interpret it.
I create meaningful photographic art featuring the natural world that bridges the disciplines of art and science, left brain and right brain, wildness and orderliness. For me art, science and nature have always been connected. As a young person, the transition from exploring, drawing, painting and photographing nature to trying to figure out how it all worked was intuitive and natural. In University I studied biology and taught myself photography and these disciplines both helped me to appreciate the complexity, diversity and interconnectivity in the world around us, even our own backyards!
When I make a photograph of anything, the scientific part of my nature considers what the subject is, how it relates to it's environment and how best to photograph it. Meanwhile the artistic part of my nature sees what the subject evokes or means to me. When I can align the technical and visual graphic elements to evoke both parts of my experience, I am satisfied.
My work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions in Edmonton, Fredericton, and Fundy National Park, and is available online and in person at RB Studio and Gallery in Fredericton, and the Andrew & Laura McCain Art Gallery in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick.
