Biography
I grew up on a small farm in the north of Italy: my house was in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields and I can remember them changing colors with the natural cycle of the seasons. In that small corner of Earth, there was nothing, and yet I had everything I needed to feel blissful, I was surrounded by Life in every form. In my work, I still seek that Life's presence: I want to perceive, explore, and celebrate it as ineffable and precious.
I think everything we want to know in our life can be received by being more sensitive to what is already in front of us: we just need to observe it and bring it to our deepest attention. My works reflect this, they are realistic, and my involvement is full and authentic. They represent the relationship of humanity with the cosmos, in which Life discloses itself. Animals, landscapes, hidden corners, mundane objects, and the human figure play in this world, which I attentively approach: it never ceases to amaze me.
I work with charcoal, graphite on hot pressed watercolour paper and oil on canvas or panels. I spend a lot of time and effort researching what I want to draw or paint. I reflect on it and let the idea sink, drafting, and studying the composition in my mind. It's like tending a garden, to create the conditions to enjoy flowers. When I start to draw or to paint, I am fully committed to being at my very best, and all my energy is focused on my actions.
There is a subtle line connecting all my artworks: they are dots connecting the bigger picture of my devotion and respect to every form of Life and for the immense privilege of perceiving the human living experience, in this remote corner of the universe that we share.
