Biography
Rubén Fernández Pereira (born in 1984) is a Spanish artist dedicated to hyperrealistic drawing, who combines his professional activity with that of a technical engineer. From a very young age he was passionate about drawing, but he did not dedicate himself actively until 2022, when he took his first steps in the hyperrealism technique. In 2023 he began his training through his mentor, the renowned German artist Dirk Dzimirsky. In 2024 he started as a professional artist and joined D.R.A.M.A. (Dzimirsky Realism Art Master Academy) as an instructor. He lives and works in his home studio in Galicia, Spain.
Artist statement
In each artwork, I look for the representation of stories, personalities and moods. I begin each work with the physical representation of the composition and the taking of photographs, on which I will base each work. I do not use the pictures directly, but I arrange them digitally, looking for special characteristics that enhance the message I am looking for in each work.
To make my drawings I use traditional techniques, mainly charcoal or graphite, on paper or canvas.
I like to explore the effects of light and shadow, to bring a strong dramatism to each image. Details are a fundamental part of hyperrealistic drawing, so I create a focus of attention in each composition by intentionally enhancing the finer details marked by the play of light.
One of the personal characteristics of my works is often a subtle touch of surrealism, combining the expressiveness of the models, the lights and shadows, and the selection of elements within the composition, which creates a fraction of a story I want to represent.
