BoldBrush Recommends: Shana Bowes

Biography
Shana Bowes is a self-taught artist creating detailed graphite drawings and watercolor paintings from her own photos. Having worked in in real estate development for over 20 years, she has a passion for both beautiful architecture and neglected buildings. Her dedication to saving old buildings through her drawings is also about preserving their stories and memories.
Bowes' willingness to embrace the new while honoring the old demonstrates a balanced perspective on gentrification. Through her graphite drawings and watercolor paintings, Bowes hopes to inspire others to appreciate the beauty and significance of the built environment, but is an advocate for cultural preservation.
Bowes lives and works in Canton, GA. She has been featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, along with the Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News for her tiny acrylic one-square-inch paintings of Georgia landmarks. After living in New York City for many years and moving back home to Georgia, Bowes painted memories of her childhood. Chick-fil-A in Canton, GA commissioned Bowes to create four tiny paintings for the restaurant on Riverstone Pkwy. Bowes' architecture paintings were featured in the ABC TV show "Queens". Her art is in private collections throughout the state of Georgia, including the owner of the Plaza Theater, and the Rich's department store family.
