FASO Collector Recommends: Sherri Harris

Biography
Sherri Harris is an abstract oil and cold wax painter based in Friendswood, Texas. Born in Houston, she draws inspiration from her experiences camping throughout Texas, her travels, the beauty of nature, and her deep faith. With over 12 years of painting experience, Sherri has honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed artists, including Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin.
In addition to her own artistic practice, Sherri has curated over 12 art installations featuring various local artists, fostering a vibrant arts community. She also teaches abstract art workshops and mentors emerging artists, sharing her passion and expertise with others.
Sherri’s work is characterized by a contemplative and reflective approach, utilizing layers to create depth and mystery. Through mark making, texture, and color, she invites viewers to engage with the emotional landscapes she constructs. Her art has been exhibited in various galleries and church exhibits, where it has garnered attention and acclaim. Notably, she received the Bold Brush Award for Best Abstract Art in the June 2021 show, along with several other honors in juried competitions.
Outside of her artistic pursuits, Sherri cherishes spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, finding joy in the moments of everyday life. With a commitment to exploring the interplay of nature and spirituality, Sherri continues to develop her artistic voice, creating pieces that resonate with a sense of tranquility and introspection.
“What I love about abstract art is that it comes from within myself and onto to the canvas. It is authentic...what I feel now and what brings life to me, what encourages me all becomes part of my paintings. The colors, the strokes and markings tell the story I wish to tell. My art is always inspired by the beauty of the world around us and a desire to have the viewer pause for a moment and take in the message.
