Biography
"Becoming an artist was an instinctive, not conscious, decision. As a child I was always sketching and doodling, eventually filling many sketchbooks with whimsical drawings. Today, my 50 sketchbooks are windows to my consciousness.
My world is the West. I was born here, and I have lived in the foothills of the Teton Range for 35 years. Although I have explored trails and back roads throughout the West, Alaska, and several continents, the most powerful paintings are often near home. I feel a closeness to the light, changing seasons, and migrations of animals in this special part of the world.
My approach to painting begins with looking and exploring, and plein air (on site) studies in watercolor or slow drying acrylics. I see infinite possibilities in the patterns of light on landscape, sky, and water. Studio work allows a more detailed study, or perhaps a mixed media work that explores a deeper, less literal experience. Design and simplicity are goals, along with a greater relationship to Place."
