Biography

Todd Anderson is a watercolorist who specializes in landscapes and portraits. He graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design in 1998. After two decades as a software developer, Todd is finding both delight and frustration trying to capture the world around him in a medium he rarely used as an undergraduate. His watercolors have been accepted and displayed in several juried exhibitions throughout New England.

Statement

I am drawn to the ways that light and shadow transform the built and natural worlds in which I live. In my paintings I explore how the tone and angle of shadows describe the passing of time, acting as visual signposts that guide the rituals of my life throughout the year. Both personal and universal, the shadows in my watercolors describe the time and place of the world around me.

New England, with its rich history, diverse seasons, and varied topography, provides an endless array of subjects for exploration. I find myself drawn to the picturesque coastal scenes, quaint villages, and dramatic landscapes that embody the spirit of this region. Through careful observation and a keen eye for detail, I strive to capture the unique character and charm of each location, infusing my paintings with a sense of place.
