Biography
Documenting Rural America
Tom is a landscape painter working in watercolor. He's particularly fond of remote and rural locations with dilapidated structures such as old barns and outbuildings. He paints en plein air and in the studio...he does commission work as well.
His paintings have been juried into several prestigious exhibits and plein air events around the country.
Tom is a native of Colorado and although he now lives in Texas, his Colorado roots run deep. He and his wife own property in Colorado and now spend their summers there, where it's not uncommon to find Tom fly fishing, his other passion.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I get a lot of satisfaction from painting the things that appeal to me. I enjoy the challenge of taking the motif before me and portraying it on paper, especially when there's an emotional connection. It can be something as simple as the sun hitting the cupola on an old barn just the right way, or a cast shadow that is somewhat abstract. If it resonates with me, it's worth the time. If it resonates with the viewer, all the better.
